chaos
noun
A confused mass or mixture.
I recently posted a photo of my suburban Suffolk garden on Facebook, celebrating the ‘confused mass or mixture’ that it has become thanks to weeks without meticulous maintenance. To me, it’s a haven for wildlife; a biodiverse smorgasbord of insects and animals of all local species, where they can congregate and call home. But on top of that, it’s quite nice to look at! There’s something different in every corner, in every pot and every border - on closer inspection, there are details that you wouldn’t have noticed the first time round. If you don’t mind a bit of chaos, it’s a visual feast!
Well, it turns out that quite a few people are adverse to chaos in the garden. In many comments, it was noted that I ‘need a gardener’ or that this patch of outdoor space ‘needs a bit of TLC’. It didn’t offend me at all - rather, it’s interesting to see the differences in opinion. On one hand, I think this space is thriving. On the other, some people disagree and believe it needs neatening up!
