NEWS FLASH

RHS backs ‘Untie Your Tree’ campaign

The RHS is backing a campaign asking gardeners to check for ‘strangling’ tree ties, which are used during staking, but should be cut once the tree is established (after 3-5 years). Leaving the ties on the tree can restrict growth and deprive a tree of water and nutrients. This is particularly an issue in new housing estates, where it has been found that 74% of trees had been staked incorrectly.
