In the ever-evolving world of horticulture, there’s a new lion on the block. Meet LIONPLANT, a young, bold, and fast-growing nursery, and member of Decorum, who’s redefining how we think about pot chrysanthemums - and they’re just getting started. Though the company is only two years old, it stands proudly on twenty years of experience in Decorum, led by the dynamic duo of Martijn and Hans, whose journey began with cut chrysanthemums and a whole lot of coffee.
A Partnership Planted in Passion
Martijn grew up surrounded by rows of cut chrysanthemums, but as space and prospects shrank, the future of his family’s glasshouse felt uncertain. Then came Hans - already a seasoned grower of pot chrysanthemums - and the pair sat down over many cups of coffee, eventually striking a partnership that would root LIONPLANT in something much stronger than tradition: innovation.
Now with Martijn on board, things are moving fast - and in exciting directions. The nursery is buzzing with new ideas, fresh faces, and a clear vision. And according to Martijn, “England is our most exciting upcoming market!”
Meet the Flowerpops: Where Innovation Pops
The star of the LIONPLANT lineup is the Flowerpop - a revolutionary new pot chrysanthemum that’s turning heads and filling carts. Inspired by the trendy pompon-style cut flowers, Flowerpops are compact, colorful, and full of character. They even come with a playful, chupa-chups-style label that’s perfect for kids (and the young-at-heart). And the UK is loving them, especially in supermarkets like Lidl, where demand is growing and green is very in.
What Makes a LIONPLANT Chrysanthemum Special?
While other nurseries grow pot chrysanthemums seasonally, LIONPLANT is one of the only growers offering year-round production. That’s made possible by a high-tech yet hands-on approach:
• Own genetics, powered by the breeding expertise of Dümmen Orange
• Use of LED and blue light to keep the plants compact and perfectly shaped
• Climate-controlled greenhouses at a steady 18–19°C
• Nine-week cycle from cutting to supermarket shelf—faster than a radish!
