Flower Trials Special: Plants you must grow!

This week for PYMG (plants you must grow), we have a Flower Trials special!

Now, in case you don’t know, this is an event where up to 60 glasshouses open their doors to show their new breeding and developments. I’ve been attending for more than 10 years now, and I absolutely love it. This is where the garden centres and mail order companies come to shop for their plants!!

So, I’m showcasing my favourite pics of what’s due to be shown this year at the event - if you want to find out more about the event, click here.

Antirrhinum ‘Double Shot Pink’ by Hem Genetics

A true innovation in snapdragons, these are two feet tall, but incredibly strong. I’ve tested them harshly, as you can imagine. Glorious flowers, excellent for using indoors in the vase, and the fragrance is certainly something to be enjoyed. Already picking up lots of awards, this is the new pink, which I think looks cracking!

Strawberry ‘Lizzy’ by ABZ Seeds

I love all the innovations that these guys are bringing out, and here we have a strawberry, that can be grown on the windowsill indoors, or in a window box! I think it’s so important to help people learn that you can grow your own, and it will taste so much better than anything you buy in the shops. A new innovation in ‘kitchen fruit’!

Freesia ‘Sorrento’ by Van den Bos

A Freesia with a little bit of a difference - the fragrance is described as lemony! A strong plant, which is ready to flower in just 70 days, and is nicely compact, creating a true Pot Freesia!

Keep reading if you’re a VIP member, and you will get to see the biggest innovation in Rose development for probably 50 years…
