A new seed-raised Primrose to spice up winter plantings: Flamenco Series!
And it's available right now!
I love Spain. It always feels right to me, I feel the sun has a lot to do with that! But here’s a winter season bloom that really brings the sun, even in the gloom! I’ve never seen such bright colours on a Prim, which are offset perfectly by the delicate, frosted white edge.
You will notice straight away that this is a double flowered variety, with a ruffled bloom. For many years this was the holy grail of breeders, but skills are now so strong, that they are pumping out plants of this calibre. Introducing ‘Flamenco Series’, so aptly named!
Rudy Raes of Belgium are really the front runners when it comes to seed-raised unique primroses! Being seed raised means the consumer can easily grow them at a low price (and have the joy of growing seed), but also when grown as a plug plant, the price can stay super sharp!
Let’s talk about how you can use Primroses in the border. They love the cool weather, so they tend to do their thing in the depths of winter (even with frost and snow on top of them), and then in the summer, they’ll just hide below your perennials, chilling a bit.
Of course, they are also superb for containers. Being quite low slung, ‘Flamenco’ are excellent for window boxes.
But, I seem to have a new fetish (not sure if that’s the right word but let’s run with it) using these IPM Essen prize-winning plants as an indoor pot plant. They give amazing colour, some of the colours have a brilliant fragrance, and they last three times as long as a bunch of flowers, despite costing a third of the price. You do the math!
So, if you’re a grower and you love this new beauty, get your seed ordered of Primrose ‘Flamenco Series’. If you’re a garden centre, tap up your grower for more information. If you’re a consumer and you found these in the garden centre already, you’re super lucky, and I hope you really enjoy them!!
What is its name? Where can I get it (in UK). Is the seed available or just the plants so far?
