Well, paint me pink and call me Patsy, I’ve just had a little holiday. And the only shard of ‘work’ I’ve done is kinda right now, on the plane. But heck, this isn’t work, sharing plants in my passion!!
I’ve been in Munich, which incidentally I’ve fallen in love with. Everything there is handsome - the architecture, the lush greenery, the river beaches, the food, ooh la la… and the plants!
Munich Botanical Garden is bloody awesome, especially the Glasshouses! So this weeks PYMG is a little guided plant tour of the most remarkable growing things I encountered during my visit:
Begonia solananthera
Wow wow wow, I’ve only met this Begonia once before - at Dibleys in North Wales when I had a tour with Gesneriad Queen Lynne Dibley. It’s a “clambering” (the official term I’m sure) species which hides a bit of a secret!! The blooms are fragrant - ermagaaad!!! It’s a species well worth hunting down. Super unique!
Buy it here from Dibleys.
Iris ‘It’s a Pleasure’
Iris season seems to be lasting longer this year, or is it the fact that more and more of us are wetting our pants over them? But, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Look at the colour of this fine cultivar; and I’m so here for that frill, too. It’s like the drag queen of bearded Iris!
Not available online in the UK yet, but this French retailer has some.
Clematis integrifolia
The scrambling Clems are relatively unknown, but you gotta see this one. Acts like a herbaceous plant, bulking out borders, and come summer these highly couture blooms emerge from the classy foliage. It’s a stitching plant - not a lead character, but a very important support act!
Buy it here.
VIP subscribers will be able to scroll on to find a parrot-like houseplant, and a beautiful-smelling, frothy pink-flowered shrub that would be right at home in a British garden!
