Good morning everyone, hope you’re well! I write this week Substack from an Albanian apartment block. I’ve been here on a bit of an exploratory trip, to enjoy the nature, but also to get a feeling for my ancestral roots! It has been really good, but there aren’t many garden centres, I have to say!
Anyway, here’s this week’s selection, remember you can always subscribe to get 3 extra plant suggestions!!
Passiflora ‘Minicuya Red’
Lubera in Switzerland are amazing, and Raphael is so generous with his knowledge on LinkedIn too. Amazingly, he is developing a miniature, annual form of the Maracuya Passion Flower! I cannot wait to hear more on this. Go follow him…
Pistia - the Water Lettuce!
I’ve been at GLEE Birmingham for a few days as well, building the Future Plants stand, which also included one aquatic! I just love the look, and the felted feel, of water lettuce! So much so, that I have a mini water garden in my lounge, just so I can stroke the lettuce from time to time… Try Lincolnshire Pond Plants if you want to buy some!
Surfinia ‘Dark Yellow Morn’
The Surfinia name is ubiquitous in Petunia, and they just keep knocking out of the park. Suntory have released their yellow, and it is class leading. Mustard yellow flowers with darker accents, all with that usual vigourous habit you expect from Surfinia!
Lantana ‘Bloomify’
A plant we are set to see more of, as it loves a hot summer. Not only have we enjoyed a new hanging basket variety, but I think the “Bloomify” range is really going to catch on, such a cool name! Available out of Ball Colegrave for trade, and another item much admired on the Future Plants stand at GLEE!
Buy it here if you’re a consumer.
Heuchera ‘Fire Alarm’
Finally, do you remember when I was banging on about Heuchera getting leaves as big as Hosta!?? Well, this intro through Kernock Park Plants is super beaut and HUGE! Heuchera development is still going from strength to strength even after all these years, make sure you grab a copy of Amateur Gardening to see my showcase of the plants at Plantagogo too!
