In this week’s Plants You Must Grow, we head to the north of Italy, as we discover what new plants Lazzeri have in their portfolio; there’s everything from perfumed petunias to vivacious verbena... ooh la la!

Dipladenia Brasileira Series

Dipladenia aka Mandevilla are starting to get noticed a bit more in the UK, since suppliers are ramping up. Ideal for hot summers, it’s a little touch of the exotic! Lazzeri have the whole range, including the new ‘Rose’, which is pictured above, the original reds, yet also some new two-tone pinks. Habits range from gentler climbing to bushy patio specimen. Give them a try!

Verbena ‘Encantada’ California Red

Drought tolerant bedding and patio plants are bang on trend right now, and Verbena are top of everyone’s lists. ‘Encantada’ offers bushy, dense plants, covered in confetti-like flowers. I particularly like the California Red, which has a refreshing deep red to the flowers, a welcome change to the usual pastel scheme.

Petunia ‘La Signora’ Violet Vein

Oof! Gorgeous fragrant Petunias, just built for window boxes. The ‘La Signora’ Series is a grower’s dream, it stays compact and neat in the packs, then flourishes once it hits the garden or patio pot. Violet Vein is my pick, for its classic colour scheme, and quite remarkable fragrance!
