We’re in the midst of Chelsea Flower Show, and I had to take a second mid-show to write about the plants that have really caught my attention this year (yes, including the much-awaited Plant of the Year 2024)!
From cup-like cosmos to fruity peonies, here’s what I stumbled across on my way through the tents (I’m sure they won’t like me referring to them as tents, what I mean is the “great pavilion”)…
Oh, how I lust after these orchids, but will forever remain terrified of growing them. The orchid society had a brilliant display, so fun and educational, and a little bit saucy! Apparently this one is cool growing, so I could give it a go even… Do you dare me??
This foxglove really got everyone’s attention, it has deformed petals, which by chance happened to look like the most beautiful orchid!!
Cosmos Cupcakes - ooh do you know the story of this one? The customer who brought it to us at Thompson & Morgan was basically paid with a horsebox, that was her choice of payment! It’s so so unique, with deformed petals that basically create a big cup. It has been a pleasure to see how this particular cultivar goes from strength to strength! Very easy to pick up seed packets here and there too, so I won’t even give you a supplier.
