Straight from the boat and into Florensis HQ near Rotterdam for a strong Dutch coffee and a self-assembly cheese sandwich (is that technically a flat-pack sandwich?) I hadn’t visited the summer garden at Florensis and Marjolein had been ‘encouraging’; me to do so! I wasn’t disappointed, there’s a lot of nice innovation here, which has a real nod to market changes and developments.
So, let’s get into it..
Achillea ‘Milly Rock’
People often don’t realise why plants are bred to be shorter, it’s mostly so you can fit more onto a danish transporting trolley, but there can be other surprising benefits too. Think of Achillea, usually plants are a bit wiry and clumsy, but bring it down to pot-size and you have something which is ideal for the tabletop and can help balcony-dwellers to think about pollinators on their balconies and patios. Akin to a living bouquet, the bright colours are also uplifting and a great gift item- for you and for nature.
Buddleja ‘Little Rockstar’
Buddleja have come so far, as demonstrated in this exact photo. On the right, you see the stalwart, messy specimen which often graces railways and motorway verges. But, in the foreground, a ‘bedding butterfly bush’ could be on the cards- compact, well-shaped plants with oodles of frothy flower spikes which will have the butterflies gagging for them!
